Sisavang Vong was the King of Laos from 1904 until his death in 1959. He was born on February 14, 1885, in Luang Prabang, which was then the capital of the Kingdom of Laos. Sisavang Vong was the son of King Zakarine, who was assassinated in 1900, and his wife Queen Thongsy.
Sisavang Vong ascended the throne in 1904 at the age of 19, and he reigned for 55 years, making him the longest-reigning king in Laos' history. During his reign, Sisavang Vong oversaw the country's transition from being a French protectorate to gaining full independence in 1954.
He was known for his commitment to preserving the traditional culture of Laos and Buddhism, and he spent a lot of time promoting education and the development of the country's infrastructure. Sisavang Vong was a popular and much-loved king, and his reign is still remembered by many in Laos today.
